Job Summary
The Mechanic 1 performs preventive maintenance and basic repairs on trailers, diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles, and plant equipment, developing core fleet-maintenance skills under supervision. Responsibilities include routine maintenance (oil changes, filters, fluids), inspecting and replacing components (belts, hoses, batteries, lights), assisting in diagnosing issues with basic tools, documenting work and parts used, and supporting more senior mechanics and fleet managers on complex repairs. The role emphasizes safety, cleanliness of the shop, and participation in ongoing training and certification programs, with occasional travel. Requires a High School Diploma or GED (preferred), valid driver’s license, and 1+ year of vehicle maintenance or related technical experience; basic tool set; familiarity with diesel and gasoline engines; experience with hand/power tools and fleet software. Preferred qualifications include Class A CDL, brake certification, and vocational training.
Required Qualifications

- 1+ year experience in vehicle maintenance or related technical field
- Must have personal basic tool set to perform preventative maintenance
- Basic understanding of diesel and gasoline engine operation and components
- Experience with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment

- Detail oriented; highly organized
