Meat Department Manager (up to $27 +Sign-On Bonus)

Job Summary

Prepare, package, weigh, and price meat department products while trimming, deboning, and portioning offerings upon request. Manage inventory levels, receive merchandise, break down pallets, and process vendor invoices to ensure products meet Citarella standards. Oversee day-to-day operations, including department profitability, merchandising, and team supervision. Write schedules, approve PTO, and maintain accurate timecards. Supervise team members to ensure service standards are met and assist with opening and closing procedures. Monitor quality, freshness, and product rotation while adhering to DOH, DOA, and OSHA standards. Ensure the department is cleaned and maintained throughout all shifts, including cases, displays, and coolers. Maintain accurate signage and pricing. Direct team development through training, mentorship, and annual performance reviews. Requires advanced knife skills, vast meat knowledge, and proficiency in math and Microsoft Excel. Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-3 years' experience managing a meat department in a grocery store environment
  • Flexibility schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of job including standing during scheduled hours, kneeling, stooping, using stairs, lifting, push and pull items of usually 20-75 pounds
  • Vast knowledge of handling perishable items and product rotation
  • Food safety and sanitation knowledge
  • Ability to show initiative, work with limited supervision, and are self-motivated
  • Ability to hire, train, inspire and develop a team
  • Team builder and brand ambassador
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Analytical thinking and proficiency in math needed to perform job responsibilities
  • Proficient computer knowledge and skills; Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Advanced knife skills
