Job Summary
Stock meat cases with presentation, facing, and organization per department schematics while ensuring tag and pricing accuracy. Cut, tray, and package all required meat and seafood products, weighing and labeling items using scales and tares. Maintain cleanliness of aisles, storage areas, and work zones by removing hazardous debris and preventing liquid spills. Monitor product rotation for expired stock and verify shipment temperature and quality upon receipt. Assist customers with inquiries, product selection, and cross-selling while adhering to all procedural guidelines and safety practices.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency degree
- Minimum of 2 years professional experience
- Must maintain the highest level of customer service at all times
- Ability to adapt to the ever changing high volume retail while working in a cross-functional team environment
- Must have the capacity to take initiative when problems arise
- Flexibility to adapt in a variety of situations
- Must have advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for dealing cross functionally with peers and senior management
- Ability to multitask and have excellent organizational skills
- Must be able to support and contribute to team goals
- Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates
- Must be familiar with Health Department guidelines and regulations as they pertain to a grocery retail environment
- Must have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures
- Must have skills working with knives, tenderizers, grinders, and general meat machinery
- Must have expert packaging and wrapping skills
- Ability to cut and weigh various amounts of meat and seafood
- Understands COOL compliance for seafood products; what country the various products are coming from
- Must be able to lift 51–100 lbs
- Must be able to stand continuously for 1–8 hours
- Must be able to walk continuously for 2–8 hours
- Must be able to balance frequently
- Must be able to bend occasionally
- Must be able to climb (2–6 ft) occasionally
- Must be able to crawl occasionally
- Must be able to crouch/squat occasionally
- Must be able to kneel occasionally
- Must be able to reach (forward & overhead) frequently
- Must be able to twist (45 degrees at waist) occasionally
- Must be able to push and pull occasionally
- Must be able to grasp frequently
- Must be able to perform fine manipulation occasionally
- Must be able to work in some extreme temperatures
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred 2-3 years grocery retail experience in Meat department processes and procedures
- Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus
- Journeyman cutter or apprenticeship program completed preferred
