Job Summary
Define, develop, and implement optical and computer vision-based measurement and instrumentation systems by transferring technology from early-stage development to manufacturing-ready products. Leverage external suppliers for key technologies, defining scopes of work, issuing purchase orders, and tracking supplier deliverables. Design experiments to analyze data and improve measurement systems or production processes, while creating documentation for release to production. Provide remote and onsite troubleshooting using performance analysis of installed systems, and train engineering, maintenance, and operations teams on system usage.
Required Qualifications
- BS, MS or PhD in Physics, Optics, ME, ECE or EE
- minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with machine vision metrology equipment
- Training or hands-on experience with vision systems
- 3+ years of experience in Computer vision system development (optics, lighting, cameras, image acquisition, image analysis, laser, 3D measurement)
- Fundamental knowledge of physical optics (principles of optics)
- Knowledge of image processing algorithms (blob analysis, edge finding, morphology, feature extraction, classification, metrology)
- Microsoft Visual Studio programming (C# and Python)
- Experience with machine learning and AI technologies, including CNNs
- Systems Engineering and integration
- Digital Signal Processing
- Experience with electrical/optical/mechanical installations, including system checkout and troubleshooting
- Strong communication and presentation skills (MS Office programs)
- Data retrieval, plotting and analysis (primarily using Microsoft Excel)
Desired Qualifications
- Microsoft Visual Studio programming (C# and Python strongly preferred)
- Experience with image processing development packages such as Halcon, Matrox Inspector, NI Vision, Cognex, Keyence, or Matlab image processing toolbox
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
- Control systems (PLCs)
- Process engineering knowledge. Experienced with design of experiments, statistical analysis and process improvement
- Experience with Metrology, Inspection and Product Quality in support of manufacturing
- Motion Control – ability to integrate motion on imaging platforms
- Computing – Familiar with high performance computing systems
- Ability to interact effectively with customers & coworkers as well as work independently
