Job Summary

Instruct athletes on techniques, rules, and safety practices while developing and organizing a practice program scheduled from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Supervise participants during practices, games, camps, and travel, ensuring all athletes are accounted for and required documentation, including medical examinations, is completed before the season begins. Promote the school's interscholastic program, foster good sportsmanship, and adhere to state, conference, and district regulations governing the athletic program. Communicate with parents regarding team rules and athletic performance, while maintaining ethical conduct and supporting contest officials. Hold valid first aid and CPR certifications and complete annual WIAA rule clinics.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be 19 or older for Assistant Coach and 21 or older for Head Coach
  • Must have current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to acquire it by the start of the season
  • Understand the activity/sport, its safety practices, techniques, rules, and progression of skill development
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward students and the ability to motivate them toward developing a successful program
  • Be able to consistently meet schedule responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities
  • Ability to plan practices and events, and organize all the necessary materials and personnel to carry out the activity
  • Ability to work with students, colleagues, parents, and officials in a positive, professional, and equitable manner
  • Hold valid first aid and CPR certifications
  • Complete training as required by the District and the WIAA
  • Know and understand the student-athlete handbook
  • Follow state, conference, and district regulations governing the athletic program
  • Adhere to all safety laws and district policies
  • Follow the injuries, care, and prevention procedures as documented in the Mead School District Athletic Policies and Procedures
  • Complete and submit accident reports for any injury to the school principal or designee
  • Recognize and adhere to any athlete's health plan
  • Provide equal opportunities to all athletes as per the student nondiscrimination policy
  • Annually complete the WIAA general rules clinic and the WIAA-approved rule clinic for the sport being coached
  • Must be available for weekend shifts
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be able to effectively lead and coach others

Desired Qualifications

  • Type II Driver's License is preferred
  • Previous coaching experience at the secondary level
