Job Summary
MDS Coordinator role overseeing the RAI/MDS process to ensure compliant, timely assessments and optimal reimbursement in accordance with OBRA, PPS, Medicare/Medicaid, and payer guidelines. Leads and monitors RAI activities (MDS, CAAS, care planning, transmissions, error follow-up), coordinates PPS/MDS processes for Medicare reimbursement, sets reference dates per CMS MDS Manual, and mentors the IDT in RAI/PPS processes to improve proficiency, efficiency, and accuracy. Interfaces with Accounts Receivable on billing related to RAI processes; leads PPS/Medicare meetings; proficient with ICD coding regulations and serves as a super-user of Point Click Care. Provides monthly QAPI/QMs/reimbursement reports with trend analysis and collaborates with IDT to improve 5 Star scores through improved coding practices. Ensures OBRA RUG understanding and aligns with Medicaid guidelines; conducts utilization reviews with IDT; evaluates admissions through discharge for skilled care alignment; completes Level of Care Determination per Medicaid; supports quality documentation related to RUG requirements and billing. Maintains resident safety and infection control procedures; participates in dining room as needed; assigns guardian angel duties; performs other tasks as required.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse in Michigan
- Five years of clinical experience (two years in long term care preferred)
- Experience in management and knowledge of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process is preferred
- Ability to travel as needed or assigned
- Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment
