Job Summary
The City of Charlotte is seeking a Mayor & City Council Support Specialist to provide advanced administrative and operational support for assigned elected officials and leadership. Responsibilities include calendar management, meeting logistics, travel coordination, executive-level note-taking and synthesis of insights, coordination with government affairs on legislative initiatives, budget administration oversight, stakeholder convenings, preparation of meeting agendas and briefing materials, cross-department collaboration to streamline reporting, and ensuring confidentiality in handling sensitive information. The role supports constituent services, prepares correspondence and speaking materials, fulfills public records requests, maintains office records, and provides cross-coverage and special-project support as needed. Required qualifications include an associate or bachelor’s degree with related experience, strong organizational and communication skills, and knowledge of office technology, confidentiality, and stakeholder engagement. The position emphasizes proactive problem-solving, adherence to policies, and the ability to work with elected officials, staff, and the public in a dynamic municipal environment.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or bachelor’s degree with related administrative experience
- 3 years of related experience for Associate degree path or 1 year for bachelor’s path
- Knowledge of advanced administrative support practices
- Ability to manage calendars, meetings, and travel
- Experience with records requests and confidential information
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to coordinate with multiple departments and external stakeholders
- Experience with budget administration and fiscal stewardship
- Familiarity with public records processes and government procedures
- Ability to prepare meeting agendas and briefing materials
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Proficiency with standard office software and document management systems
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
