Job Summary
Teach Upper School mathematics courses ranging from Geometry through Calculus and Statistics, emphasizing conceptual understanding, reasoning, and proof. Communicate regularly with students and parents while providing extra support outside of class time as needed. Collaborate with department colleagues to plan units, write common assessments, and maintain consistency across courses. Serve as a student advisor, facilitating weekly meetings to promote well-being, and attend regular professional development meetings. Design units aligned with the school calendar and maintain organized course pages on Canvas.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience teaching at the upper school level
- Understanding or growing knowledge of competency-based teaching and learning
- Knowledge of curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment with the ability to implement quality, inclusive teaching, and learning programs while sustaining a culture of access and equity in Math
- Depth of knowledge in mathematical problem solving, reasoning and proof, mathematical communication, and effective use of technology
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, parents, staff, and colleagues
- Capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning, assessment, and classroom management practices
- Ability to design units around the school calendar and maintain an organized course page on Canvas
- Ability to collaborate closely with course-level team members to ensure a similar experience for the students, including planning and the writing of common assessments
- High levels of enthusiasm for teaching and learning, striving to engender a joy of learning in all students
- Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members with a continuous focus on healthy relationship building
- Commitment to a lifetime of learning, personal and professional integrity, and the capacity to serve as a model of openness, generosity, and acceptance
