Job Summary
The Math Teacher will deliver mathematics instruction to grades 9-12 at Southern Garrett High School, develop and supervise program-related activities, administer and score assessments, and maintain a safe, organized classroom. Responsibilities include using diverse instructional strategies, employing data to drive instruction, communicating with parents and students, participating in professional development, and ensuring confidentiality of records. The role requires collaboration with staff and administration to support student learning and well-being, with duties spanning lesson planning, assessment, classroom management, and participation in school committees as needed. The position is a full-time, exempt role under the Maryland system with a 187-day schedule and a salary range of $60,010-$69,169 depending on education and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Valid teacher certificate in field issued by Maryland State Department of Education or eligible for teacher certificate to be issued by the Maryland State Department of Education
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, including interaction with diverse stakeholders (students, staff, administration, parents, general public, community agencies, etc.)
- Proficiency in a variety of technology and applications
- Successful management of confidential information and materials
- History of initiative, discretion, leadership, and independent judgment
- Attention to detail related to student safety and well-being
- History of professionalism and strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and as a team player
- Ability to serve as a positive role model for students, staff, and other stakeholders
- Ability to maintain emotional control in stressful situations
- Ability to lift and transport heavy objects (40-60 lbs)
- Dexterity for mouse, keyboard, and instructional manipulatives
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to perform essential functions with/without reasonable accommodations
- Advanced Professional Certificate/License issued by the Maryland State Department of Education
- Master's Degree or higher in applicable field (preferred)
- Minimum three (3) years of teaching (preferred)
- Dual certification in another academic area including Mathematics (preferred)
