Job Summary
Teach Geometry and Algebra 2 classes Tuesday through Friday and on short Mondays, meeting assigned students at designated times while creating a classroom environment conducive to learning. Plan and implement a program of study that meets individual student needs, IEP plans, and state standards, guiding the learning process toward curriculum goals. Evaluate student progress regularly, administer standardized tests, and provide progress reports to students and parents. Establish and maintain student behavior standards, communicate openly with families regarding academic and behavioral progress, and collaborate with staff to support students with health, attitude, and learning challenges.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Current New Mexico teaching certificate and endorsement in the area to be taught, if applicable; or an administration approved plan to secure such a license within 90 days of the date of hire
- Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Flexibility, organization, decision making and problem solving skills
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, community members and staff
- Interpersonal skills with diverse populations, in-person and on the telephone
- Awareness of school policies on medication, emergencies and child abuse/neglect
- Awareness of laws, regulations and guidelines affecting teachers and students
- Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others
- Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds in supplies which requires bending, stooping and lifting
- Ability to adjust focus on a computer monitor in order to get information from a variety of information systems
- Ability to use hands and arms to manipulate objects
- Ability to use keyboards, tools and other controls
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to occasionally work outside
- Ability to use a variety of instructional materials in the classroom
- Normal vision and hearing with or without aid
- Ability to move about assigned locations during the work day
