Job Summary
Teach students with special and general education needs while maintaining confidentiality for all client and staff records. Establish and enforce classroom rules to manage the learning environment and student behavior. Create a safe, inclusive atmosphere demonstrating cultural sensitivity and ethical conduct. Participate in department and agency meetings, communicate effectively with parents and colleagues, and provide feedback on safety concerns. Fulfill legal requirements as a Mandated Reporter under NYS law and complete NYS Teaching Certification within six months.
Required Qualifications
- NYS Teaching Certification required or in process at time of hire
- Successful completion of certification required within six months of hire date
- Bachelor degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Relevant teaching experience (three years minimum)
- Experience in PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports)
- Experience in Restorative Practice
- Self-motivated
- Strong verbal and writing skills
- Attention to detail
- Problem-solving
- Flexible and adaptable
- Must be able to restrain clients utilizing Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques
- Must be able to perform a variety of tasks, climb stairs, move throughout the building, work cooperatively in a team environment and quickly respond to emergencies
- The ability to drop repeatedly to knees, twist and turn, exert oneself physically at an intense level, and support another adult's weight
