Job Summary
Department Chair at Seymour Community Schools, based at Seymour Middle School, leads instructional practice and curriculum alignment to advance student achievement. Key duties include providing instructional leadership to ensure standards-aligned, engaging instruction; collaborating with teachers to implement research-based best practices; analyzing assessment data to guide instructional decisions; leading department teams in formative and summative assessments; supporting teachers in evaluating student work and progress; partnering with building administration to identify strengths and improvement areas aligned to district goals; guiding interpretation of local and state assessment data for instructional planning; ensuring alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment with district standards; selecting and using instructional materials that engage students; coordinating professional learning opportunities; modeling effective instructional strategies and fostering peer collaboration and shared leadership; maintaining accurate records and participating in required meetings and professional development; upholding board expectations and contributing to continuous improvement; pursuing ongoing professional growth and leadership development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education
- Valid Indiana teaching certificate
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, correspondences, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
- Mathematical skills: fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community
