Job Summary
Investigate service component condition through visual and non-visual methods, including failure and fracture surface characterization to identify locations and modes. Perform expert microstructural characterization using optical microscopy, SEM, and EDS, alongside chemical analysis practices for high-performance material systems like superalloys and ceramic coatings. Participate in failure analysis activities, communicate with internal and external customers, and write technical reports, presentations, and specifications. Define and manage project schedules and budgets while supporting product qualification, procurement, and material substitution.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Materials, Ceramics, Mechanical or related technical field
- Minimum 3-5 years' related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Understanding of failure analysis of parts made of superalloy and steel materials
- Knowledge of materials and metallurgy of steels superalloys and coatings and their chemistry, microstructure, heat treatments, and service degradation modes
- Knowledge of mechanical, physical, and environmental testing; materials data analysis
Desired Qualifications
- Work experience in a manufacturing / lab environment preferred
- Understanding of gas turbine coatings is preferred
