Materials Engineer & Python Expert - Freelance AI Trainer
$35,360–$35,360 year
Remote · Argentina or Colombia
Job Summary
Design computational material science problems to challenge frontier AI models. Each problem hinges on a tool such as ObsPy, instaseis, pyrocko, MITgcm, xmitgcm, flopy/MODFLOW, or GeoPandas, and runs inside a sealed Linux container with a programmatic judge. As an expert author, you pick an anchor tool, craft a problem around its waveform-processing kernels, geophysical inversion routines, sub-surface flow solvers, or validated data pipelines; write a Python reference solution; provide input files and model definitions; decide numerical tolerances for correctness; and test the task against batches of parallel attempts. This is project-based, part-time work aimed at contributing to the evaluation and improvement of AI systems, with compensation up to $17 per hour equivalent and approximately 10–20 hours per week during active phases. Parts of the description note that the opportunity is non-permanent, project-based, and remote with a focus on material scientists and engineers who can learn and apply the listed tools.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Material Science or related field
- 2+ years of research, applied, or teaching experience
- Python proficiency
- Fluency with ObsPy, instaseis, pyrocko, MITgcm, xmitgcm, flopy / MODFLOW, or GeoPandas
- Ability to design problems that genuinely require a specialized solver
- Strong written English (C1+)
