Job Summary

Develop experiments, processes, and quality control protocols for all materials in Antares' reactor systems, including lifetime testing and cross-institutional collaboration. Design and conduct physical, thermal, and mechanical testing that replicates reactor environments while employing statistical methods to evaluate process variables and environmental effects on material properties. Perform materials characterization and root cause investigations of failure modes, then interface with manufacturing, neutronics, and quality engineers to integrate materials into the overall system and optimize operating conditions. Work with vendors and collaborators to identify critical gaps in material behavior, requiring proficiency in optical or electron microscopy and mechanical property evaluation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in materials engineering
  • Proficiency in optical or electron microscopy as well as mechanical property evaluation
  • Experience with Materials characterization including root cause investigations of failure modes
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary to support critical milestones
  • U.S. citizen or national
  • U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder)
  • Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157
  • Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158
  • Eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years demonstrated experience as part of integrated team in a production setting
  • Knowledge of radiation effects in materials
  • Knowledge of stainless steel, Ni based superalloys, and ceramics
  • Knowledge of Graphite or other nuclear materials
  • Coatings experience
  • Exceptional communication skills to work effectively across teams and convey technical information to non-specialists
