Job Summary
Materials Engineer responsible for ensuring materials selected in design, analysis, and prototyping activities for new nuclear systems are compatible and acceptable. Perform materials engineering duties in support of procurement, fabrication, joining and testing of raw material commodities. Provide innovative material solutions for design and manufacturing, oversee material characterization, perform failure analysis and identify failure modes, prepare material performance specifications and additive manufacturing material evaluations, communicate technical concepts across the organization and with customers, direct weld development activities related to materials issues, and collaborate with design/manufacturing to resolve materials joining, machining, and processing challenges. Develop and apply materials solutions to meet thermal, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and chemical requirements. Travel (<10%), U.S. citizenship, and ability to obtain DOE/DOD clearance as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or similar) or physics is required
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a metallurgical/materials/manufacturing engineering environment
- Additive manufacturing experience
- Hands-on laboratory experience
- Clear, concise, accurate, timely written and verbal communication
- Strong teamwork and ability to develop relationships with internal/external customers and suppliers
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain/maintain DOE or DOD security clearance (as required)
- Travel (<10%) domestic and international
