Material Technician

Job Summary
Conduct material field testing including compaction, hot mix asphalt sampling, and coring as part of QC/QA programs. Perform wet concrete sampling and complete quality assurance or control testing for grading, base, or paving projects in field laboratories. Use nuclear gauges to verify density and moisture of granular bases while determining asphalt density, content, and gradation. Maintain accurate daily journals of construction activities and submit testing results using standardized forms and reports. Work flexible schedules with travel to site locations within Alberta for extended periods. Comply with all safety codes and participate in assigned Health and Safety training programs. Assist the Laboratory Supervisor in maintaining laboratory equipment in appropriate working condition.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Construction Engineering & or Civil Engineering Technology
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver's license, including providing a 3 year drivers abstract
- Working flexible schedules and travel to site locations for extended periods of time within Alberta
- Maintaining a safe working environment by complying with all safety codes, guidelines, and regulations forming our Health Safety & Environmental management system
- Participating in all assigned Health and Safety training programs
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated willingness to learn
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications for reporting of project information
- Demonstrated experience with Alberta Transportation construction specifications and testing and reporting requirements
- Previous experience with soil analysis, soil compaction, and field testing
- Previous experience testing hot mix asphalt
- Previous CCIL certifications for Aggregate, Concrete, and Asphalt testing
