Material Inspector

Job Summary

Carry out routine site inspections, sampling, and testing of construction materials including concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, and steel to confirm compliance with approved submittals and project specifications. Inspect delivered materials, review supporting documentation, and verify identification and traceability before acceptance. Identify and report non-conforming materials, witness sampling activities, and monitor material storage and handling practices at site stores. Maintain accurate inspection records, sampling registers, and quality documentation while liaising with resident engineers, contractors, and laboratory teams. Ensure adherence to project quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements across civil and infrastructure works. Minimum 5 years' relevant experience required with a diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or related fields.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Materials Engineering, or a related field
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams
  • Experience on major infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, tunnels, water, stormwater, or utility networks
  • Familiarity with accredited laboratory testing procedures and reporting requirements
  • Understanding of non-conformance reporting, corrective actions, and quality assurance systems
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in materials inspection on construction or infrastructure projects
  • Practical experience in the inspection, sampling, and testing of key construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, and steel
  • Sound understanding of applicable construction standards, project specifications, inspection and test plans, and quality control procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, technical submittals, material certificates, and laboratory test results
  • Good working knowledge of site quality documentation, inspection processes, and record management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple inspection activities in a fast-paced site environment
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and a collaborative working style
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and sustainable engineering outcomes
