Job Summary
Execute safety standards and move steel to and from storage, production areas, loading docks, and delivery vehicles using hand, forklift, overhead crane, or other equipment. Safely attach slings, hooks, or devices to lift material, guide loads, and climb onto vehicles to tie down or release material. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds over 25 feet to heights of 5 feet while wearing required personal protective equipment. Apply proper bundling techniques, configure loads based on planned routes, and maximize trailer capacity without sacrificing safety. Maintain and operate assigned tools including tape measures, forklifts, and overhead cranes, while determining safety issues and reporting them promptly. Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, maintaining spatial awareness around moving objects and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to correctly read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs
- Ability to safely meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the Company
- Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision
- Ability to develop a good working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures
- Ability to maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations
- Demonstrate basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
- May be required to demonstrate strong customer relations skills
