Material Handler

Job Summary
Material Handler loads dried distillers' grains, ethanol, corn oil, wet cake feed, distiller’s syrup, or biomass into trucks and rail cars using mechanical equipment, meters, and scales to ensure timely delivery and product safety. May complete grading of grain products or biomass; operates large machinery, may require DOT certification, and performs routine maintenance. The role is on-site in Mitchell, SD, with responsibilities including unloading support, safe handling, and adherence to POET’s safety, food safety, and quality standards. Requires outdoor work, weekend/holiday shifts, and potential extended hours; training provided for software applications and processes related to the grains operation. Maintains confidentiality and a culture of safety and teamwork, with potential opportunities for growth and relocation benefits.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience: Material Handler I (no experience required) or Material Handler II (documented experience)
- Experience with heavy machinery and loading/unloading
- DOT certification preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software
- Ability to operate heavy loading equipment and scale/meter systems
- Safety-conscious with ability to work outdoors and comply with safety and environmental procedures
- Ability to meet call-in requirements and work extended hours
- Ability to obtain DOT certification if required
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Interest in maintenance and operating grain processing systems
