Job Summary
Operate remotely controlled overhead cranes to stack and unstack steel plate, load and unload materials onto conveyor systems, trucks, and rail cars, and use burning equipment and hand grinders to cut and prepare plate samples for testing. Tag and mark steel plate, enter data into computer systems, and perform additional responsibilities as directed by the front-line supervisor. Work 12-hour rotating shifts in a heavy industrial environment subject to heat, humidity, fumes, and noise, lifting up to 50 pounds while following all safety rules and standard operating procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work in environments subject to fluctuations in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust, and noise
- Ability to accurately enter data into computers without transposing figures
- Ability to read and follow procedures and technical manuals
- Ability to think ahead and plan work in a fast‐paced setting
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
- Good math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, accurate number identification)
- Ability to work 12‐hour rotating shifts
- Ability to quickly coordinate hand motions with overhead crane operation
- Comfortable working in high places
- Successful completion of an ergonomic test
Desired Qualifications
- Experience operating a remote‐controlled crane in a fast‐paced environment
- 2–5 years industrial experience
- Experience in a position requiring planning out work
