Job Summary
Material Controller in the Small Parts department responsible for the accurate handling, movement, and documentation of materials and products within a manufacturing environment to ensure efficient production flow and inventory accuracy. Responsibilities include moving and documenting materials to maintain inventory accuracy, interpreting production/shipping orders, performing cycle counts, reconciling discrepancies, and maintaining tools/equipment. Requires data entry into computer systems (IFS, Mii), matching incoming parts to paper documents, forklift operation, and ensuring safety practices. Must be able to operate forklift, participate in general plant housekeeping, and work with a team or independently. Qualifications emphasize computer proficiency, math skills, forklift certification, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, PPE readiness, and durable attention to safety.
Required Qualifications
- Proficient with computers
- Able to add, subtract, multiply, divide, read, write, and count accurately
- Forklift certified
- Ability to operate forklift and perform forklift inspections
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- 75% of workday standing or walking, 10% sitting, 10% stooping, 5% climbing
- Must obtain valid Valmont forklift Operator License
- Must be able to clearly understand, follow, and communicate written and verbal instructions
- Must be able to perform computer functions/transactions required by the department timely and effectively
- Prior experience with computers in inventory management systems (e.g., IFS, Mii)
- Experience with moving materials around warehouse/storage yard
- Good communication with coworkers and supervisory staff
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety procedures
- Knowledge of inventory cycle counts and discrepancy reconciliation
- Ability to interpret production and shipping orders for proper material handling
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience with data entry into IFS/Mii or similar systems
- Ability to interpret Bills of Materials
