Job Summary
Master officer responsible for safe, efficient vessel operation, navigation oversight, crew discipline, and incident/ emergency management; requires strong leadership, compliance with ISM/SMS, CAN/International regulations, and collaboration with Chief Engineer and dispatch; must maintain vessel readiness, supervise deck operations, conduct hazard assessments, and ensure safety and environmental compliance; must be willing to join a union and operate on a rotating on-site schedule in Kitimat, BC.
Required Qualifications
- Master 3000 Domestic certification (or higher) for Escort tugs
- Master 500 Domestic certification (or higher) for Harbour tugs
- Minimum 2 years of experience as officer in charge of the deck onboard ASD 60+Ton Bollard Pull Tug
- Understanding of all collective agreements currently in force between HaiSea or Seaspan and the vessel’s crew members
- Comprehensive understanding of all SOPs relevant to the respective areas of operations
- Knowledge of Canadian legislation, including the Canada Shipping Act (CSA) and its regulations, such as the Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea (COLREGS)
- Understanding of responsibilities under the Canada Labour Code (CLC) Part II and Maritime Occupational Health and Safety (MOHS) Regulations
- Understanding of the company Health, Safety, Wellness, Environmental, and Quality Policies
- People management skills with ability to delegate work
- Ability to make decisions under pressure
- Ability to communicate clearly and consistently
- Willingness to apply for union membership with the Canadian Merchant Service Guild Western Branch
