Job Summary
Mass Spectrometrist position at Parallel Squared Technology Institute (PTI) within the Schmidt Futures Network. You will set up, operate, and maintain mass spectrometers from multiple vendors (Thermo, Bruker, Sciex, etc.), analyze experimental data for internal and public presentation, and train team members to use instruments independently. The role includes designing relevant proteomic experiments, performing protein sample preparation, preparing lab reagents and media, managing inventory, and coordinating with purchasing. You may manage MTAs, software licenses, and service contracts. Requires a Masters or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry and 5+ years of MS maintenance experience, with demonstrated LC-MS/MS proficiency (DDA/DIA). A cover letter is required. The posting emphasizes collaboration across chemists, ML engineers, biologists, and mass spectrometrists to advance multiplexed protein analysis research for disease mechanisms, with a focus on contributing to high-impact scientific projects and disseminating discoveries through publications and data portals.
Required Qualifications
- Masters or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry.
- 5+ years of experience maintaining mass spectrometers.
- Demonstrated experience optimizing LC-MS/MS methods for bottom-up proteomics (e.g. DDA/DIA/prioritized approaches).
- Demonstrated mastery of chemistry techniques or molecular & cellular biology techniques.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm & interest in bioanalytical chemistry.
- High level of initiative and flexibility, excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail and good time management skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with mass spectrometry technological development (hardware or software).
- Proficiency with statistical and computational methods (e.g. coding in Python/R).
