Job Summary
Youth Programs Counselor at Central Rock Gym (Cambridge, MA) to foster a fun and welcoming climbing program environment for youth by introducing fundamentals of climbing, building a solid curriculum, ensuring a highly engaged CRG youth community, and ensuring safety. Responsibilities include training and certification attainment (SafeSport, CPR/First Aid, etc.), supervising groups, belaying, leading activities and crafts, clear communication with attendees and parents, and setup/breakdown of daily activities. Requires previous youth program experience, strong behavior management, excellent in-person communication, availability during program weeks, and belaying proficiency or willingness to learn. Reports to Youth Programs Director.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience working with youth in a camp or program
- Strong behavior management skills with youth of all ages
- Strong in-person communication skills with children, parents/guardians, and staff
- Availability during all program operating weeks from morning until mid-afternoon
- Proficiency in top rope belaying or a willingness to learn
- Careful attention to detail, ability to analyze movement and provide insightful feedback
