Job Summary
Martial Arts Instructor at the Ann Arbor YMCA leads safe, structured group exercise sessions, develops and implements lesson plans, and ensures participant safety and engagement. Responsibilities include class preparation, effective cuing and communication, equipment setup and inspection, safeguarding participant well-being, maintaining certifications, and securing substitutes when needed. Requires CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days), a high school diploma or equivalent, and a nationally recognized group exercise or personal training certification on hire; experience in related fields is preferred and multilingual ability is a bonus. Must be able to lift up to 180 pounds and work with diverse participants while following YMCA policies and safety procedures.
Required Qualifications
- CPR/AED Certification is required or ability to obtain within 60 days
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Certification in group exercise or personal training from a nationally recognized organization e.g. ACE, ACSM, NASM, AFAA, NETA, is required on the date of hire
- Six (6) months experience working in a related field is preferred
- Must be flexible to work with a wide variety of people
Desired Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent is required
