Job Summary
Conduct martial arts classes and nurture children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging. Maintain close visual supervision of assigned children, following specific program ratios and ensuring no child is left unsupervised. Help children manage behavior using a positive approach, including proactive strategies, redirection, and constructive discipline with natural and logical consequences. Plan and implement classes based on specific topics and skill mastery, culminating in an exposition or showcase at the end of the session. Cultivate positive relationships with parents, engage them as volunteers, and connect them to the YMCA. Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures, including safety, cleanliness, and child abuse prevention standards. Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character and YMCA Core Values in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers, and fellow staff.
Required Qualifications
- Eighteen years or older
- high school diploma or equivalent
- Current approved First Aid
- Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certifications within 60 days of hire
- Completion of child abuse prevention training prior to first day in program
- Ability to lift 30-35lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Completed semester units in CD, human services, or related fields preferred based on topic to lead
- Previous experience working with school age children in a group setting (preferred)
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
- Y-USA Leader Certification, preferred
