Job Summary
Investigate county ordinance violations reported by departments, agencies, and the public, focusing on tax, environmental health, housing, zoning, and business licenses. Enforce these ordinances by working with homeowners to obtain compliance, issuing citations when necessary, and referring cases to appropriate departments. Counsel the public on law violations, reinvestigate before turning cases over to the Assistant County Attorney for prosecution, and testify in court as needed. Provide law enforcement support at special events and ensure security at the Government Center Building and Commission Meetings. Maintain regular attendance and possess the physical ability to handle equipment and transport items weighing up to 75lbs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Class C Driver License
- Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- POST Certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months
- Knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations in County Ordinance enforcement and inspection
- Knowledge of State and local laws relating to arrest, evidence preparation and keeping and property seizure
- Knowledge of county geography
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens and other employees
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques involved in investigations
- Ability to analyze situations quickly and effectively and to determine the proper course of action
- Ability to cope with situations firmly, tactfully, courteously, and with respect for the rights of others
- Skill in the use of firearms
- Ability to move/transport items weighing up to 25lbs
- Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting/standing)
