Market Design Specialist - Energy Market Design

Job Summary

Analyze NYISO markets to identify design flaws and opportunities for improvements in effectiveness and efficiency. Gather, organize, and distribute expert feedback from internal subject matter experts, consultants, and external stakeholders. Lead the development of product-based solutions, prepare concept reports, and draft tariff modifications and memos to the Board of Directors. Facilitate negotiations for complex rule changes and develop campaign strategies to move controversial solutions through stakeholder discussions. Act as the primary point of contact between market participants and internal stakeholders, representing NYISO in industry forums. Present proposals and project statuses to senior management while ensuring market design documents remain current with future design opportunities. Work onsite from the Rensselaer, NY location several days per week with remote options for remaining days.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Finance, Economics or other related technical field
  • Minimum of two years NYISO experience or three years of energy industry or professional experience, including ISO-specific experience
  • demonstrated understanding of power industry and/or commodity markets
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from market participants, regulatory agencies or members of the business community
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or board members
  • Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail and internet programs
  • Proficiency in common statistical analysis software programs
  • Ability to concisely summarize and visualize complex data using a multitude of data visualization techniques (graphs, maps, charts, tables, figures, etc.)
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of geometry / trigonometry
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra and advanced statistical theory
  • Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations and proofs of theorems
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to work with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases
  • Ability to work with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
  • This position may require work on nights, weekends or holidays
  • You will be required to work onsite from our Rensselaer, NY location several days per workweek

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
