Job Summary
Teach STCW-related maritime subjects including Navigation, Cargo Operations, and Bridge Management; deliver lectures and lead seminar groups as appropriate; participate in the examination/ assessment process including the setting of papers and marking; update own discipline knowledge; ensure timetable and academic calendar compliance; conduct research for career development and be a research-active contributor; provide timely, formative feedback to students; deliver maritime training courses as required; be prepared to travel and occasionally work outside standard hours; prepare cadets for CoC oral and written examinations; conduct mock orals and tutorials; highlight curricula changes as required by maritime regulators and STCW code; collaborate with Line Manager and manage assessments; maintain alignment with regulatory requirements and institutional goals.
Required Qualifications
- E: STCW Class 1 Certificate of Competency Master Mariner Unlimited
- E: BSc level academic qualification in Nautical Sciences
- P: Teaching qualification
- E: Experience of maritime education and/ or training.
- E: Thorough knowledge of STCW code
- P: Master’s Degree will be an added advantage
- P: Sailed as a Master on merchant navy deep sea vessels.
- P: Experience of working in an industry supporting seafarer.
- P: Educational experience with leading courses/ programs, revising course content, developing new programs and courses.
- P: Knowledge of student-centred teaching and learning methodologies.
