Job Summary

Support trades teams on active class surface ships to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization using SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW processes. Fabricate, maintain, repair, and modify structural elements by cutting, fitting, and assembling parts into jigs and fixtures while working from blueprints and engineering sketches. Perform routine and non-routine tasks including laying out points, marking lines, and modifying equipment to meet standards at company, customer, and field locations. Pass X-ray qualification testing within the first three weeks and travel up to 75% to shipyards and military bases across the country and abroad.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain security clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • High School education or Trade School or equivalent
  • 4 years of related experience welding aboard naval vessels
  • Technical/professional certifications
  • Ability to obtain medical clearance to wear a half-face respirator
  • Welding experience with stick welding (SMAW), Flux Core (FCAW) and Aluminum MIG (GMAW) processes in all positions from 2G to 6G
  • Experience reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, weldments, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts and/or work orders
  • Experience reading and interpreting written and verbal instruction for products to be fabricated and/or installed
  • Ability to accurately read and follow welding symbols
  • Ability to accurately read measuring devices to 1/16 of an inch
  • Ability to work outside of trade specific requirements as team projects require
  • Applied comprehensive knowledge of quality control procedures
  • Ability to follow and enforce safety procedures
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others
  • Must be able to travel up to 75% when not assigned to local tasking
  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes (no less than 30 lbs)
  • Ability to work on and climb ladders
  • Ability to work in extreme temperature environments
  • Ability to work aboard ships
  • Ability to work in shipyards
  • Ability to work under industrial conditions
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions
  • Ability to work aloft or over the sides of vessels
  • Ability to ride ships at sea for extended periods
  • Must be able to demonstrate welding ability on needed processes through X-ray qualification testing and pass with a satisfactory grade from our Quality Assurance Team within the first three weeks from start date for continued employment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience TIG welding pipe
  • Current or prior welding certificates applicable with MIL-STD-248
  • Currently enrolled or have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school or skilled trades certificate program
  • Current OSHA 10 Maritime Certificate
