Marine Systems Support Engineer

Job Summary
Provide on-site technical guidance for complex maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs of propulsion and power systems during sea trials, dockside repairs, and refits. Act as the primary technical bridge between field operations and engineering design by partnering with internal teams to influence future product designs through real-world insights and performance data. Monitor system component lifecycles, identify End-of-Life hardware, and draft Engineering Change Proposals to maintain fleet readiness. Conduct deep-dive root cause investigations into persistent failures, translating field findings into formal design improvements while ensuring all modifications meet Department of National Defence safety standards. Maintain accurate service records and technical logs in accordance with both GE Vernova and DND regulations. This role requires a dual focus on hands-on troubleshooting and engineering design, with a mandatory Level II (Secret) Security Clearance and eligibility for the Controlled Goods Program.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Marine, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent military training/certification)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in field service, ideally involving marine propulsion or industrial power generation systems, demonstrating a blend of field-service and design/engineering experience
- Minimum 5 years demonstrated understanding of naval vessel operations or previous experience working within a military/government maritime environment
- Minimum 5 years' experience with PLC programming, control systems, and high-voltage power distribution
- Strong working knowledge of maritime technical standards and Configuration Management principles
- Proven ability to work independently in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments
- Excellent interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Controlled Goods Program (CGP) clearance and Level II (Secret) Security Clearance mandated by the Government of Canada
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Canadian Naval procurement or maintenance contracts (e.g. ISSC)
- Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical certificate or the ability to obtain one
- Willingness to travel periodically for training or support at other Naval facilities
