Job Summary
Assist in the maintenance and operations of marine propulsion and auxiliary equipment on DEP-operated vessels. Clean and paint machinery spaces, maintain lube oil stores, and assist on dock-handling mooring lines. Operate sludge valves as directed and perform other related tasks under direct supervision. This role requires a valid Third Assistant Marine Engineer license or a Merchant Mariner's Document with specific endorsements, maintained for the duration of employment. Selection is provisional, contingent upon passing the next civil service examination for Marine Oiler and obtaining a list number from the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Third Assistant Marine Engineer or higher license issued by the United States Coast Guard
- Valid Merchant Mariner's Document with Junior Engineer endorsement
- Valid Merchant Mariner's Document with Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) endorsement
- Valid Merchant Mariner's Document with Marine Oiler endorsement
- Valid Merchant Mariner's Document with Marine Fireman/Water Tender endorsement
- Ability to take and pass the next civil service examination for Marine Oiler
- Obtaining a list number issued by the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services
