Job Summary
Provide technical support, documentation design, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment including power supply and propulsion systems. Research and develop ship propulsion systems such as diesels, gas turbines, and diesel-electric systems, while applying findings to design requirements. Develop system documentation and ship specifications, conduct analyses of propulsion systems, and lead development of technical data packages. Lead development of technical data packages and reviews, and conduct trade studies regarding ship configuration. Full time onsite at USCG Surface Forces Logistics Center in Baltimore, MD with up to 10% travel anticipated for ship checks. Requires a Secret security clearance and a Bachelor's degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution
- At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields
- Overall experience must include at least three (3) years of documented experience with developing ship propulsion and control systems, machinery arrangements, weight assessments, and conducting trade studies on the configuration of propulsion and associated components
- Familiarity with ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules and regulations
- Proficient with common productivity software
- Strong communications skills
- Eligibility for a SECRET Security Clearance
- Current U.S. citizenship
Desired Qualifications
- Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs
- Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs
