Job Summary
Marine Mechanic II performs skilled maintenance and repairs on marine diesel and gas engines, generators, marine jets, propulsion systems, and related electronics on vessels from 19-200+ feet. Responsibilities include diagnosing engine problems, coordinating repairs, installing piping and fixtures, testing engines, and mentoring junior team-members. The role is on-site in Juneau, AK, with occasional travel to other ports in Southeast Alaska, and requires strong diagnostic skills, reading technical manuals and schematics, and a background in marine mechanics. The candidate leads and coaches Assistant Mechanics, works with mechanical and electrical systems, and may assist with inventory, logging, and special projects per company policy. Preferred qualifications include an Associate’s degree in Heavy Diesel/Marine Mechanics and knowledge of US Coast Guard regulations and inspections.
Required Qualifications
- High School degree or equivalent
- 4+ years of experience in marine, heavy diesel or related mechanical field
- Experience installing and repairing electronic systems
- Proficiency in reading and applying technical manuals, schematics and marine engineer drawings
- Ability to travel periodically to other ports in Southeast, AK for repair projects
- Must pass a security background check and DOT drug test
