Job Summary
On-site Marine Mechanic I performs maintenance, repair, and installation of diesel/gas engines, generators, propulsion systems, and related electronics on vessels 19-200+ feet. Role includes diagnosing engine problems, overhauls per manuals and technical specs, and guiding junior mechanics. Responsibilities include installing and repairing hydraulic equipment, piping, fuel lines, wiring, control cables; fabricating brackets and manifolds; testing engines and equipment; lining up engines for new vessel builds; and leading/coaching Marine Mechanics II and III. Requires high school diploma or equivalent, 6+ years in marine/heavy diesel mechanical field, experience with analog/electronic systems, ability to read schematics/manuals, leadership experience, and able to travel to ports in Southeast Alaska. Preferences include Associate’s degree in Heavy Diesel or Marine Mechanics and knowledge of US Coast Guard regulations; position involves on-site work with occasional travel, must pass security background check and DOT drug test. Environmental and safety expectations include operating in variable conditions, strict PPE use, and adherence to company and Coast Guard policies.
Required Qualifications
- High School degree or equivalent
- 6+ years of experience in marine, heavy diesel or related mechanical field
- Experience installing and repairing electronic systems
- Proficiency in reading and applying technical manuals, schematics and marine engineer drawings
- Ability to travel periodically to other ports in Southeast AK for repair projects
- Safe operation of hand and power tools
- Customer service experience
- Leadership experience
- Must pass a security background check and DOT drug test
