Job Summary
Perform maintenance on galley and mess-decks air conditioning and refrigeration units onboard USN Surface Ships. Manage subcontractors, provide work directions to others, and lead multiple jobs while completing specialty trades functions. Develop technical documents including controlled work packages, formal procedures, and task reports. Schedule, report, and brief customers and senior management, performing quality inspections on finished products. Assist shipboard personnel in the operation, maintenance, and repair of specific items on galley, laundry, and mess-decks equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent
- 6 years of related experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Confidential security clearance
- Shipboard mechanical maintenance and repair experience
- Ability to read and interpret equipment and system ship drawings and ship technical documents and manuals
- Competence in the use of mechanical equipment and tools in corrective repair efforts in order to accomplish ship repairs
- Ability to provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty
- Physical ability to climb and work on ships in an industrial environment
- Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes (no less than 30 lbs)
- Ability to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces
- Ability to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels
- Ability to ride ships at sea for extended periods
- Ability to wear a respirator
- Ability to obtain DBIDS ID base access
Desired Qualifications
- Recent Marine AC&R shipboard experience on USN ships
- A previous or current EPA certification
- Technical/professional certifications
- A current, valid DOD Confidential security clearance or higher
