Job Summary
Marine Investigator to support investigations across multiple locations (Fort Lauderdale, Reston, Annapolis, New York). Responsibilities include attending on-scene marine casualties and incidents, drafting high-quality investigation reports in conformance with the IMO Casualty Investigation Code and national maritime legislation, maintaining currency with international instruments, representing the Maritime Administrator and communicating marine casualty trends and findings, and tracking progress to ensure timely completion of investigations. Preferred qualifications emphasize experience in marine safety/investigation, technical writing of marine legislation and guidance, knowledge of IMO Code MSC.255(84), leadership ability, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, independent work capability, and experience with maritime inspection/audit or survey and presenting findings to diverse audiences.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant maritime experience
- At least 10 years’ experience of shipboard operations
- Fluent English oral and written communication skills
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of international instruments (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, MLC, ISM Code, and COLREGS)
