Job Summary
Diagnose mechanical, fuel, cooling, lubrication, and exhaust system problems on gasoline and diesel inboard marine engines; perform repairs and preventative maintenance; service engines and propulsion components; maintain detailed service records; ensure safety and regulatory compliance during marine vessel maintenance and repair; role requires mechanical aptitude and attention to detail to keep vessels seaworthy and compliant.
Required Qualifications
- 2-5 years’ experience working on inboard marine engines (gasoline and diesel)
- demonstrated ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain engine and propulsion systems
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of marine-specific systems (engine, fuel, cooling, exhaust, drive/shaft, hydraulics)
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and parts catalogs
- Physical ability to perform moderately strenuous work, lift heavy parts, standing/kneeling/crawling, working in varied conditions
- Valid driver’s license and insurance
Desired Qualifications
- Formal marine-mechanic certification or completion of an accredited marine-mechanic/apprenticeship program
- Experience with both gasoline and diesel inboard engines
- Familiarity with marine electrical, hydraulic or steering systems
- Ability to perform advanced vessel or system work (hull, plumbing, electrical systems, fiberglass/gelcoat repairs)
