Job Summary
Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify electrical systems and equipment aboard US Navy surface ships to support fleet modernization. Remove, plan, execute, and install cables, conductors, and connectors while troubleshooting and diagnosing systems to eliminate problems. Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, and work orders to complete alterations and installations in accordance with quality and safety procedures. Complete quality documents for reporting and verification of work performed. Weekend and overtime hours required depending on contract awards. 51-75% travel required between shipyards and military bases around the Hampton Roads area and abroad. Per Diem provided based on location; travel and lodging expenses covered.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizen
- High School diploma, Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related shipboard electrical shipboard experience
- Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment
- Ability to obtain various shipyard and base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain them throughout employment
- Ability to travel between 50% - 75% when not assigned to local tasking
- Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes (no less than 30 lbs)
- Ability to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces
- Ability to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels
- May ride ships at sea for extended periods
- Experience installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing high and low voltage electrical distribution systems and its associated equipment and cabling
- Strong knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts and/or work orders as well as written and verbal instruction for cables and equipment to be installed and connected
- Experience planning and laying out cable runs according to specs, drawings, and proper installation practices, preparing the areas for welding and assisting in the attachment process
- Experience installing, opening, modifying, and logging MCTs, MCPs and stuffing tubes and completing tests for final inspections
- Proficiency in proper methods of disconnecting and reconnecting new and existing equipment and completing supporting OQE
- Experience with the proper, safe usage of multimeters, meggers, and testing procedures
- Ability to accurately communicate with Team Leads and co-workers regarding the technical aspects of the work being performed
Desired Qualifications
- Technical/professional certifications
- Current Fiber Optic certification and installation experience
- Multipin connector fabrication experience and certification in accordance with NAVSEA STD 009-73
- NAVSEA Cableway Improvement Program certifications
- Experience installing DDG Modernization Backfits: S/A 71615K DVSS, S/A 71726K IBNS, S/A 717427K Digital Indicators, S/A 84226K OOD Flat Panels, and S/A 94979K HM&E Condition System 2.0
- Graduated from and/or completed a vocational school or a skilled trades certificate program
- Current or active DoD clearance
- OSHA 10 Maritime Certification
