Job Summary
Marine Electrician responsible for the installation, repair, and hook-up of equipment for electrical services on a ship. Must apply knowledge of electrical theory and shipboard procedures to troubleshoot and repair shipboard electrical systems (600 V and less) in accordance with specifications and drawings. Typical tasks include running cables/lines and harnessing cables aboard vessels, fabricating terminations/connectors, preparing work areas, drilling, grinding, inspecting cableways and electrical equipment, testing internal circuits for continuity, shorts, and grounds, inspecting mechanical/electrical connections, locating grounds and open circuits, maintaining and repairing telephones and circuits, installing new power and lighting circuits, and applying safety procedures including Lock-out Tag-out. Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of electrical theory and procedures
- Working knowledge of shipboard electrical systems and equipment (600 V and less)
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair shipboard electrical systems and equipment
- Experience with running cables, lines, terminations, and harnessing cables aboard vessels
- Familiar with safety procedures pertaining to electrical work and Lock-out Tag-out implementation
- Ability to inspect electrical components, perform tests (continuity, short circuits, grounds), and report results
- Ability to install new power and lighting circuits
- Experience with maintenance of telephones, circuits, and associated equipment
- Ability to inspect mechanical and electrical connections and mounting hardware
