Job Summary
Marine Electrician II needed for Norfolk, VA Fleet Services to inspect, repair, install, modify, and maintain electrical/electronic systems on naval vessels. responsibilities include setting up and validating electrical machinery, troubleshooting electrical systems, wiring and testing cables/connectors, assembling multi-pin connectors and fiber optics, and participating in installation and maintenance of Combat Systems, PLCs, generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting and alarm circuits. Preferred qualifications include NAVSEA standards, wire-way inspections, fiber optic and PLC experience, and supervisory experience. Must be able to obtain SECRET clearance and DBIDS, wear a respirator if required, lift heavy equipment, and travel as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Will read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints
- Repair and replace cables and connectors
- Work involves participating in the installation and maintenance of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits
- Troubleshoot, repair, and install electronic and electronic equipment and cables
- Must be familiar with NAVSEA Standard Item requirements
- Must possess basic hand tools
- Must be able to walk, stand for long periods of time, sit, bend, stretch, reach, squat and twist
- Able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes (no less than 30 lbs)
- Able to climb ladders, work in extreme temperatures, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces
- May travel domestically and internationally
- May require wearing a respirator
- Must have or be able to obtain SECRET clearance and DBIDS access
- Currently certified to accomplish wire way inspections in NAVSEA Standard Items
- Microsoft Office knowledge is a plus
- Identify and make recommendations to shop superintendent regarding problem areas in contract work items
- Instructing helpers, apprentices, or less skilled electricians
- Experience with maintenance and repair of electrical/electro-mechanical systems on vessels
- Experience with NAVSEA standard items
- Cableway certification and fiber optic certifications preferred
- PLC, fiber optics and integrated network system experience preferred
- Minimum of 7 years' experience as a marine electrician with 3+ years supervisory responsibilities
- Experience with budgets and material management
