Job Summary
In this senior technical role, you will design and lead marine mammal monitoring programs, including population surveys, behavioural assessments, and underwater noise studies. You will serve as Marine Mammal Technical Lead for major environmental impact assessments, develop Environmental Protection Plans, and guide project teams in executing complex marine programs. The position requires a graduate degree in marine biology or a related field, alongside 10+ years of relevant experience, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in preparing regulatory submissions.
Required Qualifications
- A graduate degree (MSc or PhD) in marine biology, marine mammal science, or wildlife ecology.
- 10+ years in marine mammal research, monitoring, permitting, or field programs across BC, Atlantic Canada, and/or the Arctic.
- Applied expertise in distance sampling, abundance modelling, and density surface modelling.
- Strong analytical and statistical skills with experience handling large ecological datasets.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience preparing marine regulatory submissions, including Fisheries Act Authorizations and SARA permits.
- Experience developing marine mammal mitigation and monitoring plans for industrial or infrastructure projects.
- Collaborative leadership approach with experience guiding teams and contributing to business development.
