Job Summary
Maple St. YMCA is hiring a Summer Day Camp Counselor to work with children aged 4-12, supervising a group, assisting in planning activities aligned with YMCA values, ensuring safety and cleanliness, and communicating effectively with parents and staff. The role requires 18+ years old, prior experience with children, ability to supervise children in a pool setting, leadership and reliability, and completion of mandatory trainings (including program-specific training, YMCA culture, and CPR/AED/First Aid) before/soon after hire. A background check is required; the position emphasizes youth development, inclusivity, teamwork, and adherence to safety policies within an indoor/outdoor camp environment.
Required Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Previous experience working with children aged 4-12 years, preferably in a day camp setting
- Ability to supervise and play with children in a pool setting required
- Experience preferred in outdoor living, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games or art
- Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail required
- Complete before first shift: program-specific training
- Complete within 30 days of hire: YMCA cause & culture training; BLS CPR/AED/First Aid
- Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training
- Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities
- Complete all required abuse prevention training prior to first shift
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check
