Job Summary
Read and interpret written work instructions, utilizing detailed part and tool drawings to assemble, test, fit, and disassemble assemblies including main steam turbines, valves, gears, and pumps. Set up work areas and machines, obtaining necessary tools and fixtures to perform operations such as balancing, riveting, and machining. Work to close tolerances on interrelated dimensions, examining work scope for required fits and clearances before, during, and after assembly. Notify inspectors as needed and record dimensions or characteristics as required. Setup and operate associated equipment for steam testing and hydrostatic pressure testing. This role is based in Summerville, SC, with an hourly rate of $23.00–$33.00. Candidates must be US citizens and obtain DoD security clearances. The team supports the Navy's turbine-drive and shipboard compression requirements through advanced technologies for propulsion and power generation.
Required Qualifications
- US citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearances and approvals
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Ability to operate material handling equipment and set-up/operate assigned machines and equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, layout and process worksheets
- Familiarity with basic precision measuring equipment such as analog micrometers, height gages, gage blocks, calipers, etc.
- Experience working with a variety of tools and equipment such as lathes, drill presses, mills, riveters, presses, surface grinding, low speed balance, heating equipment, positioners, hand power tools
- Ability to maintain acceptable quality and efficiency level and effectively communicate with others
- Demonstrated basic knowledge, skills, and abilities to assembly work and machining
- Ability to lift objects weighing 50 pounds to waist height and transporting a distance of 10 feet
