Job Summary

Lead the daily fabrication department activities by directing team members through material conversion processes for conveyor belts and custom products. Oversee cutting, sewing, and assembly tasks while ensuring safety compliance, quality checks, and inventory management within the ERP system. Calculate shift production numbers against sales data and communicate beginning and end-of-shift duties to the Production Supervisor. Suggest process improvements and enforce company policies while training staff on established procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Prior manufacturing experience
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (or team-lift up to 100 lbs)
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn internal systems
  • Must be a leader embracing and modeling AFC's Core Values
  • Ability to work under direct supervision and report to the Production Supervisor
  • Ability to carry out the instructions provided and lead others to do the same
  • Support, clearly communicate, and enforce company policies and initiatives
  • Suggests process improvements and is a change agent, following through when change is necessary
  • Ensures the department's work environment and work processes are safe, training employees in the company's established processes
  • Creates and leads training and supports cross-training efforts through the department
  • Calculate production numbers at the end of the shift, relating to sales numbers and quantities produced for all production cells
  • Complete and communicate all beginning/end of the shift duties that are required
  • Oversees the daily activities required to process the current production jobs, ensuring safety throughout the process
  • Produces quality checks on work and assists in resolution of quality problems and returned products
  • Correctly completes all inventory transactions in the ERP system
  • Participates in cycle counts, inventory management, and trains others on the process, as needed
  • Cuts material to correct lengths by reading and interpreting work orders, making corrections to work orders, as needed
  • Hand stitches, irons, and creates belts from raw materials according to customer specifications in a job shop environment
  • Places correct end and lacing to belt
  • Fabricate other parts other than belting
  • Roll, tape, and apply correct pins to belt
  • Read orders and carry out essential functions of the job without much supervision
  • Operate the industrial sewing machine, making sure the stitching and the material applied to the end and/or sides are applied correctly
  • Use utility knives to trim materials to very close tolerances
  • Cleans work area, machines, tools, equipment and keeps track of stocked material levels
