Manufacturing Process Engineer II

Job Summary

Coordinate fabrication and installation activities to ensure products conform to engineering design and customer specifications. Confer with management and engineering staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and capital budget expenditures. Develop models of alternate processing methods to test feasibility and design improved procedures for ongoing operations. Investigate new manufacturing methods and machinery to increase productivity, reduce waste, and lower costs. Oversee product system designs that interface machines, hardware, and software while providing support to R&D. Apply statistical methods to estimate process capabilities and analyze proposals to justify expenditures. Maintain and update CAD documentation for equipment and plant layouts. Work with suppliers concerning specifications, quotes, and installation, negotiating long-term technology protection agreements. Evaluate field installations to recommend design modifications that eliminate malfunctions and improve productivity. Participate in meetings, seminars, and vendor trips to stay apprised of new developments. This role supports manufacturing operations and manages special projects at La-Z-Boy's Dayton campus, with the potential for 1-2M annual cost reduction projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
  • 2-4 years' experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Visio
  • Excellent analytical/problem solving skills
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Knowledge of NPV and ROI in regards to capital acquisition and appropriation
  • Experience & knowledge in defining & documenting processes including process flow, PFMEA, control plans, and work instructions
  • Experience and knowledge in statistical process control
  • Experience and knowledge in lean manufacturing
  • Experience and knowledge in reading part, gauge, and machine drawings
  • Knowledgeable in capital appropriation implementation and management
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Desired Qualifications

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt experience
  • Ability to motivate, develop people, communicate, listen, perceive, and be open-minded and able to learn from others

  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential
