Manufacturing Operations Platform Engineer II

On-siteHuntsville, Alabama, United States

Full TimeEnterprise

Job Summary

Embed daily with warehouse, assembly, and maintenance teams to identify friction points and manual workarounds. Own features end-to-end by talking to operators, writing designs, building implementations with AI-assisted tools, testing locally, and shipping through peer review. Drive physical-to-digital connectivity by integrating machines, PLCs, and HMIs into the platform while connecting internal MES, WMS, and quality systems with external ERPs and machine-level data. Contribute to the real-time factory model and analytics layer that transforms floor data into fleet-wide decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, industrial technology, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience in a production manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years of manufacturing operations experience covering the full lifecycle — how a part moves from a released design, through a work order, across a shop floor, through receiving and inventory, to a finished product — with hands-on exposure to the software systems that run each of those steps (any of: MES, WMS, ERP, MRP, PLM, quality-management, or maintenance-management systems)
  • Direct working experience with quality in practice — first-article inspection, in-process inspection, non-conformances, corrective action, calibration
  • Comfort using AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) to accelerate implementation
  • Experience leading, coordinating, or supervising a team executing production work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Direct experience integrating software systems in a manufacturing context — e.g., integrating an MES to an ERP, wiring a WMS to a shipping system, feeding machine data into a historian or MES, or building the API/data contract between two production systems
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity and building outcomes from the ground up rather than executing against a fully-defined spec
  • U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior manufacturing experience in an industrial-equipment, capital-equipment, sheet-metal, welding, fabrication, or machining environment
  • Deep working knowledge of one or more of MES, WMS, ERP, MRP, maintenance-management, or quality systems — as an implementer, integrator, or configuration lead
  • Exposure to PLCs, HMIs, OPC-UA, MQTT, MTConnect, machine data acquisition, or SCADA
  • Prior work in a small team where you owned outcomes end-to-end rather than pieces of them
  • Prior experience shipping software integrations end-to-end — designing the interface, writing the connector, testing it against a real counterpart system, and iterating on production feedback
  • Comfort with modern software development workflow (Git, code review, merge requests)
  • Experience with continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, or Industry 4.0 initiatives
