Job Summary
Manufacturing Engineer, Tool & Die Machining (Starlink) oversees a technical project to develop and qualify tooling and manufacturing processes for plastic injection molds and high-pressure die cast tools. Develop in-house machining capability for the tool & die team; analyze parts for DFM to optimize manufacturability; collaborate with design engineering, upstream production, and suppliers; coordinate across manufacturing, design, machinists, technicians, and quality to quickly resolve production problems; implement machining process controls to enable lights-out production; identify and install machine shop equipment and ensure maintenance/calibration; drive cost optimization and manage project schedules; research new materials and manufacturing technologies; estimate prototype and production costs for tooling and finishing; publish detailed development project schedules; require a Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years CNC experience; preferred Master’s or PhD; strong CAD skills (Siemens NX), experience transitioning design to manufacturing, knowledge of injection molding, CNC, die casting, stamping, and assembly; ability to travel (~15%), willingness to work long hours and weekends; ITAR/compliance requirements; SpaceX is an equal opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, materials engineering, or other engineering discipline
- 3+ years of experience with CNC machining
