Manufacturing Engineer - Instrumentation and Control Engineering

Job Summary

Design, develop, and maintain control systems and automation solutions for manufacturing processes, while troubleshooting PLC, HMI, SCADA, sensors, drives, and instrumentation issues. Optimize machine performance, reliability, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and lead root cause analysis to implement corrective and preventive actions for equipment failures. Support new equipment installation, commissioning, and validation activities, and develop electrical drawings, control logic documentation, and standard operating procedures. Coordinate with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to ensure operational excellence. This role is part of the Early Career program at Western Digital, providing foundational training through structured onboarding, mentorship, and a development curriculum.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related engineering discipline

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of industrial networks, instrumentation, and electrical systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell Automation, Mitsubishi, Omron)
  • Strong foundational knowledge in instrumentation principles, control theory, and process automation
  • Familiarity with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), SCADA systems, and DCS architecture
  • Understanding of sensor technologies (pressure, temperature, flow, displacement, vision systems)
  • Exposure to data acquisition systems and signal conditioning
  • Knowledge of calibration standards and metrology practices
  • Basic proficiency in data analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, or equivalent)
  • Understanding of statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies
